Back to 1984: Douglas Trial Set in Nebraska

|

David Domina, founding attorney of Domina Law Group, was appointed by the Nebraska legislature in 1983 as Chief Investigator in the Commonwealth Savings collapse and former Nebraska Attorney General Paul Douglas case. Douglas' impeachment was one of only two impeachments in the 92-year history of Nebraska's current constitution. The other impeachment was of David Hergert in 2006, also prosecuted by David Domina. Next March will mark the 30-year anniversary of the beginning of Douglas' trial before the Nebraska Supreme Court.

An article that ran in The New York Times on March 26, 1984 recounts the beginning of that trial. Although at the time this article was written Mr. Douglas has already been impeached after the Legislature's 27-19 vote, he had not yet been charged with any crime but agreed to appear before a Federal grand jury in Omaha.
