On this day three years ago, news struck from Newtown, Connecticut regarding a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. It was a devastating event that left 20 students and six adults dead. At approximately 9:30 a.m. that day, authorities received their first emergency call regarding the shooting. It was an act perpetrated by Adam Lanza, a 20-year-old man who took three weapons from his home as well as a military vest.
It was on this day that we were reminded that school safety protocols were still not to the standard we need. While the doors were locked, it was reported that the killer used an automatic weapon to shoot an entrance for himself. It was after that he committed his act of violence and eventually took his own life.
On this, the third anniversary of the shooting, our team at Domina Law Group would like to stress the importance of adding emergency safety procedures to schools throughout the nation. It is important to prevent these types of criminal acts in the future and having proper monitoring can go a long way in achieving this.
We encourage all schools at every level to take the necessary steps to protect everyone on the grounds. Situations like the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting are tragic and one incident is already considered too many. Schools should make sure they have adequate security, the necessary monitoring of visitors, emergency procedures to protect classes, and more. It is the duty of the school to keep students and faculty safe from all dangers.
Our national trial lawyers at Domina Law Group take the time today to remember those lost as a result of this attack and always extend our thoughts and condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
